About Us
Our History
The Wanders Family has lived in Elten since 1637. In the beginning the family made their living from agriculture and grain trade. Some time later our ancestors began catering and providing overnight accommodation for travellers and non-locals. Today House Wanders is one of the oldest family-run hospitality businesses in the Lower Rhine.
In 1798 the business was expanded to what you will find today – now in its seventh generation. Over the years the hotel was led by alternating generations of Theodor and Wilhelm Wanders. Today this tradition is held by Theodor Wanders.
The building, which is classified as a historical monument, was lovingly restored in 1994. In a noble manner, the Hotel-Restaurant Wanders resides over the marketplace in the heart of Elten. For centuries it has been witness to all the important occurrences and events taking place in the village.
Most local family celebrations, such as a child’s christening or an afternoon coffee invitation, take place in our house. For us this is a confirmation of the trust and good name our house enjoys in Elten. It is also an obligation for us to continue our commitment and the Wanders tradition in the future.
